Meet Your Symposium Speakers

Guillermo Serrano

Guillermo Serrano has a master's degree in human resources from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia - Spain, and a master's degree in international business from ADEN - Argentina. He teaches in the UCW MBA program and is developing a doctoral thesis in Barcelona to integrate neurodivergent talent into the labour market. Guillermo is the co-author of International Human Resources Practices, a textbook focusing on the cross-cultural compromise that global companies face while operating in a cross-border environment. He carries out applied research in search of solving problems in the Hospitality and Tourism industry.

Qwuy’um’aat Elliott, CPHR

Qwuy’um’aat (Eyvette) Elliott, CPHR, FNHP, MCP, a member of and residing currently on the Quw’utsun (Cowichan Tribes) territory located on Vancouver Island. She works at Senior Strategic Advisor for BC Housing and Consultant/Facilitator for Ever Plan Consulting centering her work around First Nations governance, reconciliation, community planning and organizational development. She is also a speaker and instructor, that also teaches First Nation community planning at Vancouver Island University. Her approach to work and DEI+R centers around nutsa’maat shqwaluwun (working with one heart, one mind and one spirit) while also uplifting and understanding Tl’i’ to’ mukw’ mustimuhw (each person is important).

S. Blanco

Blanco is an associate at Roper Greyell, practicing in all areas of employment and labour law with a focus on human rights issues, civil claims, and labour disputes. They have appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, before the BC Human Rights Tribunal, the B.C. Labour Relations Board, and many arbitrators. Blanco regularly advises employers on a broad range of workplace issues including contracts, policies, discipline, terminations, and accommodation issues. They work with clients in both the public and private sector including municipalities and employers in construction, health services and BC’s natural resource industries. Known for their strong advocacy skills and their ability to navigate complex legal issues, Blanco approaches all their files with tenacity, creativity, and their clients’ business objectives in mind. Blanco began their legal career at a large national firm where they gained experience working on a variety of complex corporate litigation files. They completed law school at the University of Toronto and completed their undergraduate degree at Dalhousie University on a full tuition academic scholarship.
